Mifune (Ashikawa) is a country girl from Hokkaido who is sold into prostitution. After she seizes the chance to escape, she finds an unlikely ally in the form of Joe (Shishido Jo), a young hustler who is mostly interested in his own dreams, but gradually opens his heart to her. When her pimp finds them, however, a happy ending may not be in the cards. With naturalistic performances by the fresh young cast and the “La Strada”-esque rhythm of the open road, this film has a delicate, but hardly glass, heart. 　　from HKIFF36
