Rookie of the Year(1955)

剧情简介

A reporter recognizes a hot young baseball player as the son of a former famous - and infamous - ballplayer who was accused of throwing the World Series. 　　Rookie of the Year shares five cast members with The Searchers - John Wayne, Vera Miles, Patrick Wayne, Ward Bond and Robert Lyden. This was also the first time John Wayne had appeared on television in a dramatic role. 　　Jospeh McBride, Searching for John Ford wrote: 　　Sharply written by Frank Nugent from a story by W.R. Burnett and directed by Ford with a masterful economy of style, Rookie of the Year has a relaxed lightness of touch perfectly suited to the intimacy of the new medium (television). Besides gratifying Ford's love of baseball -- he once said that he liked animals, baseball and people, in that order -- the show reverberates with the artistic stimulation he always drew from a morally ambiguous situation. And with its theme of a conspiracy of silence to cover up a historical shame, Rookie of the Year echoes Fort Apache as well as adumbrating The Man who shot Liberty Valance.
